  1. Introduction:

  3. Welcome to PopUp! Deluxe. PopUp! was designed for the 
  4. minimalist in all of us. PopUp! puts Program Manager groups 
  5. at your fingertips, and tucks Program Manager away. All 
  6. Program Manager features can be accessed by simply clicking 
  7. the right mouse button while pointing at the desktop. Before 
  8. it can be successfully used however, you must make sure of one 
  9. thing. You cannot have more than 30 Program Manager groups. 
  10. If you do then you really have more than you need anyway, so its 
  11. time to rearrange your desktop. If you have less than 30 groups 
  12. simply drag the PopUp! icon into the startup group. To run it 
  13. now just double-click on it!

  15. Rearranging Your Desktop:

  17. We suggest you start by setting up new groups with generic
  18. subjects such as Applications, Games, Communications, etc. 
  19. After that go through each of your old groups and drag the 
  20. program icons into their respective groups. You can safely delete any
  21. ReadMe style icons, unless you do in fact read them on a regular
  22. basis. Deleting the icon won't delete the actual file so you
  23. could still access it later. If you should fill one of your new
  24. generic groups then make more specific groups with that 
  25. heading. For example Games: Strategy, Games: Arcade, and 
  26. Games: Fantasy. Then sort the full generic group into the specific 
  27. group. There is no need to be to specific unless a generic group 
  28. contains many icons. When you have finished sorting delete all 
  29. of your old groups except of course your StartUp group. Your 
  30. desktop should have less groups which make more sense at this 
  31. time. Here is an example list of groups:

  53. As you can see there is a place for everything and it only took
  54. 19 groups. Once you have finished rearranging you can continue
  55. with PopUp!

  57. Troubleshooting:
  58.  
  59. Because PopUp! must watch for mouse clicks on the desktop, if
  60. you are running a program which blocks it, the clicks may not be
  61. seen. If your desktop program is not recognized by PopUp! then
  62. you must add /v to the command line under its Program Manager
  63. properties so the line reads similar to this:

  65. c:\popup\popup.exe /v
  66.  
  67. This puts PopUp! into its visible mode. You will see a clock
  68. display with a menu under it you can move it to anywhere on the
  69. screen and click the menu to access PopUp!
  70.  
  71. Since PopUp! gets its information through a DDE Link to Program
  72. Manager, you must be running Program Manager as your shell.
  73. PopUp! is not compatible with replacement shells.

  75. PopUp! Deluxe Seems Slow:
  76.  
  77. Pay attention to what sounds you use and when. When a sound 
  78. gets accessed it must be loaded from disk, and this is most likely
  79. the delay you are experiencing. If it seems a while from the
  80. time you hit the right mouse button till the time the menu
  81. shows up, assign no sound to the activate event.

  83. Icon Hider:
  84.  
  85. Use Icon Hider with caution! Icon Hider uses the icon caption. 
  86. "Media Player" is not the same as "Media Player [Playing]" and 
  87. can lead you to problems.

  89. STARTUP.BAT:
  90.  
  91. In order to accomodate different .INI files for the same
  92. programs yo may be running in different themes, there is a
  93. shell feature built in to a theme change. During a theme
  94. change PopUp! will look in the theme directory located in
  95. the programs home directory for a STARTUP.BAT file. If it
  96. finds one it will run it before bringing Windows back up.
  97. Use it to make any changes to INI files or whatever. DO NOT
  98. change WIN.INI or SYSTEM.INI!
